Following its establishment in January 2004, CEF The Gambia started partnership work in the areas of advocating for Education For All (EFA) i.e. supporting the implementation and replication of Global Week of Action 2004 in the divisions/regions; making the New Education Policy 2004-2015 understandable to the teachers and parent teacher association members; developing budget tracking skills of rural people at district level; and facilitating the establishment of integrated syllabuses for Madrassa. These activities were implemented through: National EFA Campaign Partner Network Secretariat, Gambia Teachers Union (GTU), Pro Poor Advocacy Group (Pro PAG), General Secretariat for Islamic and Arabic Education. There is room for more activities and partnership, as more is required to reach EFA by the target period.

A four-page summary of CEF The Gambia can be found on pages 22-25 of the Commonwealth Education Fund: Final Report (2009)

This final project report is based on external end of project evaluations (EPEs) of CEF conducted within the 16 CEF project countries and provides short profiles of each country and regional organisation CEF supported. It also draws on a global CEF final evaluation conducted for CEF and the Department for International Development (DFID) by Eric Woods, an independent consultant, and includes a chapter on lessons learned from his report.
